What is Requisition? Its Meaning and Definition

What is Requisition?

  • Requisition means request. In layman terms, it means requesting a higher authority for obtaining something in a formal way.
  • It can include: goods, services, commodities, supplies, etc.

Definition

“A requisition is a formal request or demand for something to be provided by an organisation. It typically relates to goods, services, commodities, supplies or resources of any kind, etc.”

  • In the context of a corporate organisation, making a requisition means starting a process to get the required/necessary items or services.
  • These items are supplied by the company to their employees.

Process

  • During the process, you have to fill a form mentioning all the details related to the requirement.
  • These details may include: quantity, quality, features and specifications of the requirement, and on what dates do you want that to be delivered.
  • This gives as a formal authorization to acquire/borrow the requested demands for a desired time period.
  • Hence, a proper structure of the supply of goods and services builds an authorised and established procedure within the organisation.
